As a result of successful application at the National Science Fund of Bulgaria call for creation of Centres of Excellence, at the end of 2008 the National Centre for Advanced Materials UNION was established. The host institution of the Centre is the Institute of General and Inorganic Chemistry of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. Coordinator is Prof. DSc. K. Hadjiivanov.
The new Centre of Excellence was officially opened on February 21, 2009. It consists of two modules:
Module 1 “Centre for Advanced Materials” unites research teams from two scientific institutions – the Institute of General and Inorganic Chemistry of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and the Faculty of Chemistry of the “St. Kliment Ohridski” University of Sofia. Coordinator of Module 1 is Prof. DSc. K. Hadjiivanov.
Module 2 “New Materials for Medicine and Pharmacy” consists of research teams from the Institute of Polymers of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (host institution of module 2) and from the Faculties of Pharmacy and Medicine of the Medical University – Sofia.
Coordinator of Module 2 is Prof. DSc K. Troev.
